How to do Migration from Lite to Pro theme

Note: If you are directly starting work on the pro theme and not upgrading from the lite version, simply ignore this article.

HoneyPress Pro is a different theme than the free themes so you install it by uploading the theme zip to WordPress. Go to Appearance >> Themes >> Add New >> Upload Theme. You won’t lose any of your content like posts, pages, etc when you activate it. However, because it is a different theme, your Customizer settings will be reset, so if you’ve made a lot of changes you might want to export them to HoneyPress Pro.

Upgrading from HoneyPress to Pro theme

Here are the instructions, how to export these settings:

  1. Install and activate the Customizer Export/Import plugin while activated the free theme and you have done the work.
  2. Go to Appearance >> Customize >> Export/Import and click on the Export button, the file is downloaded automatically.
  3. Open that file in any text editor like Notepad or any other and do a Find & Replace (Ctrl+H for Notepad) for s:10:”honeypress” and replace with s:14:”honeypress-pro”, Save the file.
  4. Activate the Pro theme, Go to Appearance  >> Customize >> Export/Import. This time upload the file you have just edited. That’s it. Now you are free to deactivate and remove the Customizer Export/Import plugin.

Upgrading from HoneyBee to Pro theme

Here are the instructions, how to export these settings:

  1. Install and activate the Customizer Export/Import plugin while activated the free theme and you have done the work.
  2. Go to Appearance >> Customize >> Export/Import and click on the Export button, the file is downloaded automatically.
  3. Open that file in any text editor like Notepad or any other and do a Find & Replace (Ctrl+H for Notepad) for s:10:”honeypress” and replace with s:14:”honeypress-pro”, Save the file.
  4. Activate the Pro theme, Go to Appearance  >> Customize >> Export/Import. This time upload the file you have just edited.  Now you are free to deactivate and remove the Customizer Export/Import plugin.
  5. Now to get the same layouts as the HoneyBee theme you just need to select the layouts from the respective settings, follow this article.
